La Brea Tar Pits

A somewhat local paleontology museum (as well as a personal favorite of mine) is the La Brea tar pits, once known as Rancho La Brea. These natural asphalt seeps have been capturing plants, animals and contemporary objects for tens of thousands of years. The museum itself is full of local fossil material, to an extent that many American fossil halls feature fossils from right here at La Brea. Something that I find entertaining about the site is that it’s located right in the middle of the city in LA.
